Shelters & Essential Non-Food Items
At SOHDA, we recognize that shelter is one of the most fundamental human needs. A safe home provides protection, security, dignity, and hope for families affected by conflict, displacement, natural disasters, and poverty. Through our Shelter and Non-Food Items (NFI) Program, we are committed to reducing homelessness, improving living conditions, and helping vulnerable communities rebuild their lives.
1) SHELTERS
A) Emergency Shelter Support
In times of crisis, rapid shelter assistance is critical for protecting vulnerable populations from harsh weather conditions, insecurity, and health risks. SOHDA provides immediate emergency shelter solutions to displaced families and disaster-affected communities, helping them regain safety and stability during emergencies.
Our emergency shelter support includes:
• Temporary shelter construction and installation
• Emergency shelter materials and supplies
• Rapid response assistance for displaced populations
• Protection-focused shelter interventions
• Community-based emergency shelter solutions
b) Emergency Shelter Kits (ESK)
SOHDA distributes Emergency Shelter Kits (ESKs) designed to help families quickly establish safe and secure temporary living spaces. These kits provide essential materials that enable households to protect themselves while longer-term solutions are developed.
Emergency Shelter Kits may include:
• Tarpaulins and plastic sheeting
• Tents and temporary shelter materials
• Ropes, tools, and fixing materials
• Sleeping mats and blankets
• Basic construction and repair materials
C) Permanent Shelter Construction
Beyond emergency response, SOHDA invests in durable and sustainable housing solutions that help families rebuild their lives and achieve long-term stability. We support the construction of permanent shelters that meet safety standards and address the needs of vulnerable households.
Our permanent shelter initiatives focus on:
• Construction of durable family homes
• Community-driven housing projects
• Climate-resilient shelter solutions
• Support for vulnerable households
• Sustainable and locally appropriate building methods
D) Distribution of Essential Household Items
A shelter alone is not enough for families to live with dignity. SOHDA provides essential Non-Food Items (NFIs) that support daily household needs and improve the well-being of affected populations.
Essential household items may include:
• Blankets and bedding materials
• Kitchen sets and cooking utensils
• Water storage containers
• Hygiene and sanitation kits
• Mosquito nets
• Solar lamps and lighting materials
• Household storage items
• Basic personal care supplies
